Indonesia has one of the highest bio-diversities in the world with many endemic plants and animals . Approximately 25 000 different plants, more than 500 different mammals and more than 750 reptiles live in Indonesia. Furthermore the country has over 1 500 different bird species.
Unfortunately the Orang Utan isn’t the only local species that is threatened by the loss of rainforest and increased poaching. Other species, for example, the Java Tiger, have already fallen prey to illegal logging and poaching and are considered extinct. Many more are on the red list of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Below are some examples of other critically endangered species:
